Purpose and Objectives
With the evolution of the Internet and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), online mapping tools have become more and more prevalent. These online tools allow non-technical users cost-effective access to mapping and information assessment tools.

This four-hour course:

  • Introduces available online mapping services
  • Explores the capabilities of these online mapping services

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Access mapping and information assessment data from the Internet
  • Create maps beneficial to natural resource managers and landowners.
Who Should Attend?

Natural resource management professionals and landowners with an interest in online mapping tools and have little to no experience using GIS.

Format

The course follows a lecture format.  Most of the material will be presented in a step-by-step manner, so that the class can follow the directions provided by the instructor.  The class emphasizes the use of readily available internet tools for access to simple, quick geographic data.  Some handouts will be provided to summarize the material presented.
